Turning the Lights On

In 2017 the Washington Post adopted a new slogan "Democracy Dies in Darkness" and were met with an insta-reaction of "isn't that a little bit much?..."

3-ish years later, the slogan almost seems prescient.

We don't even face just the same old darkness, but there's new darkness as well. Remember back when we all thought the problem was not having enough information?... Yeah, that idea's aged like milk.

Today we're blinded by the info-flow, and when we're not overwhelmed we're not sure what to trust. The darkness we face now is a function of two things: (1) the absence of light on that which matters, and (2) the excess of light on that which is inconsequential. We are faced with both the darkness of not seeing and the darkness of being blinded. So, even in our small corner of the media landscape, our first job must be to reset the brightness and make things a bit more readable.

Our mission is simple: to give you the chance to see what happens at the investment tables of power. We're starting with how the US Congress invests, and we're making their stock trades as readable, accessible, and clear we can. We hope you'll support our work, and find uses for this information on your own.

It's not much, but it is a start. Given that it's 10:30 on a Friday night, our first steps toward light might just be just burning the midnight oil. (Yeah. There it is. We really are launching our site with a pun.)

Thanks for supporting our work. We've got more on the way.
